Resident Centered Care is A way of focusing the facility’s care delivery system on the personal needs and wants of the individual resident.
Typically, when a person is admitted to a nursing facility they give up almost everything dealing with their personal choices of daily living
When to go to bed
When to get up
When and what to eat
When to bathe……..etc.
It is care that is centered on the pattern of life the individual enjoyed before entering the facility. A person should be able to enjoy as many of their “life choices” while being a care-center resident, as they did before coming to the facility.
This includes: membership in community service and social groups…..family traditions such as special parties, family reunions, etc., all of which can be carried on in the facility, if the individual is not able to go out to the activity.
In other words, if the residents wishes are not, i
llegal, unethical, immoral or harmful to self or others; Our staff will attempt to meet the wishes of the resident, within fiscal, regulatory and common sense parameters.
If an individual is used to sleeping until 10:00 a.m., then they should be able to continue to do that in the care facility.
If an individual is used to getting up at 5 a. m., but doesn’t eat breakfast until 9 a. m. why shouldn’t they have that choice?
There is no reason why residents, in long term care facilities should be awakened, dressed, and hustled off to breakfast at 7 a.m.
There is no reason why an individual, residing in a long term care facility, should isolate themselves from the pattern of community involvement they enjoyed prior to entering the facility.
Accommodating individual resident’s continued community involvement, based on pre-admission criteria, is one of our “Resident Centered” goals at MMRC.
